Douglas S. Dachenbach, O.D., 76, of Blacklick, OH succumbed to pancreatic cancer January 5, 2019 after living a full life. A lifelong Buckeye, he was born in Urbana, Ohio, and graduated from the College of Optometry at The Ohio State University in 1966 with a BS in Optometry and in 1967 with a Doctor of Optometry, serving the vision needs for the people of Central Ohio for 44 years. His second life began after his retirement in 2011 with his first love, wife Karen, and his second love, a 1924 Model T Ford. They enjoyed traveling together, touring with the Model T, and working with the “Tickin' T's of Central Ohio”. He was also a member of the OSU Chapter of Triangle Fraternity and Mifflin Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by parents Harry and Donna Dachenbach and a sister Shirley Dachenbach Shanks. He is survived by his loving wife of seven years, Karen Adams, a brother Dean of Lakehead, CA, daughters Laura of Gahanna, OH and Catherine (Darren) of Pataskala, OH, stepsons David (Cam) Foos of Ft Myers, FL, Christopher (Jacqueline) Dains of Prospect, OH, four step grandchildren Remington and Davis Foos and Dalton and Carly Dains, and by a nephew Mark Shanks of Smithburg, MD.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10 AM with a service at 11 AM at the Mifflin Presbyterian Church, Gahanna, OH with the Reverend David Bubb officiating. Private internment will be held later at Philadelphia Lutheran Cemetery, West Liberty, OH. In lieu of flowers, a gift may be given to Mifflin Presbyterian Memorial Trust Fund, the Henry Ford Museum of Dearborn, MI, or Kobacker House of Columbus, OH.
