Donald Lee Bissell, born September 25, 1946, son of Mary and Vernon Lee Bissell, in Barnesville, Ohio, died January 15, 2015 at home in the loving care of his family. Don graduated from Barnesville High School in 1964. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, including two tours of duty in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Mahan as Radarman Second Class. Upon discharge, Don attended the Cleveland Institute of Electronics and earned his First Class FCC license. Don worked thirty-four years with WOSU Public Media at the WPBO-TV transmitter in Portsmouth, Ohio, before relocating to Columbus, Ohio. Don is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Steven Bissell. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sue Daniels Bissell, daughters Karolyn (Edward) Braum, Lynnette (Bryan Turner) Bissell, and Dianna (Travis) Spencer. He is also survived by his five grandaughters Emma and Jane Braum, Eloise and Charlotte Grace Turner, and Josephine Spencer as well as extended family members. Don was a talented woodworker who made beautiful furniture for his family. He could fix anything and enjoyed surprising his family with clever solutions to repair problems. His hobbies included computers, guitar, and HAM radio station WK8W. Don suffered traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury in a motorcycle accident in 2005, but remained a loving husband, father, and grandfather up to his passing. His quick humor, ready smile and loving arms will be greatly missed by his family. At Don's request, there will be no service. His family thanks his health care team at OSU Wexner Medical Center and OhioHealth Hospice.
