Charles Curtis Thompson, 89, passed away too soon on October 09, 2024, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by loved ones. Charles was born March 08,1935 in Elgood, West Virginia to Grover and Laura (Harvey) Thompson. He grew up in the town of Princewick, West Virginia and attended Stoco High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1954 and served from January 1954 – January 1957 and again from May – October 1958. He then transferred to the Air Force where he served for another 20-years. Often stationed abroad, he served in Labrador, Germany, France, England, Italy, and Turkey, and achieved the NCO rank of Master Sargent. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in management and worked for MCI/Verizon where he became supervisor of a tri-state region. His favorite hobby was golf, and he loved playing with his brothers, sister, and sons.
He was preceded in death by his wife and life partner of 63 years, Opal (Sears) Thompson as well as his parents, Grover and Laura Thompson, three brothers, Leon, Scott and Virgil Thompson, one sister Kitty Thompson, and one grandson Jonathon Shively. Charles is survived by his children Kaye Frost, and James(Lisa Lilly) Sears from Beckley, West Virginia, Donna (Scot) Roberts, and Robin Howard of Columbus Ohio, and Grover Thompson, and Debby (James) McKee from Germantown Ohio. Four brothers, Don (Carol) Thompson, Gaile Thompson, Dean(Jan) Thompson, and Bob Thompson, and two beautiful sisters, Leta (Ron) DeAngeles and Hope Thompson Crews. He was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews are also dear to his heart.
He is remembered for his wit, wisdom, honesty, integrity, truthfulness, humor, and selflessness. He was smart, humble, responsible, honorable, dependable, and handsome. He will forever be known for his flirty curls and that one stunning dimple. But most importantly, he was known as husband, Dad, and Papa Curt.
Placement of his urn will be at Opal’s Corner in Germantown, Ohio, alongside his beloved wife. His family will hold a ‘Celebration of Life ‘ at the same location in November. If you wish to honor his life memory, please send a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
