Charles Longshore

November 15, 1957 — December 30, 2016

Charles James “CJ” Longshore, age 59, entered this earth on November 15, 1957 in Canton, Ohio and departed this life on December 30, 2016 in Dayton, Ohio.  He accepted Christ at an early age and most recently reaffirmed his relationship with the Lord. He attended McKinley High School until midway through his senior year and he was the best drum major they ever had. The family moved to Camden, New Jersey during his senior year and he graduated from Camden High School.

CJ served in the Armed Forces and was honorably discharged from the Army after having served in Germany.  He was so proud to be called a Veteran.  In September 2010 he received his Associates of Science Degree in Business Administration from Franklin University.

He served as a volunteer at the Columbus V.A. office and you would think that he was the chief administrator the way he talked about his duties. He truly loved serving at the V.A.

He loved his family and having a good time.  He loved to dance and could always be counted on to be the life of the party.  He had a sense of humor that would always have you laughing. He was the biggest sports enthusiast that you will ever meet.  He was passionate about the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns, and the Cleveland Cavaliers and you better not call him when a game was on if you knew what was good for you.  The proudest achievement of his life was his son, Terrence, whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles F. Longshore; his stepfather, Virgil McKinney; his grandparents, Ida Burns and Viola Longshore; and a brother, Brian Burns.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his son, Terrence (Kimberly) Lawrence; his mother, Hortense McKinney; brothers and sisters, Elder Beverly Williams, Bernard Burns, Bradley (Patricia) Jones, Tanya (Joey) Thomas, Valarie Parker, Marie Washington, and Shirley Yanopolous; his fur baby, Shadow Lorraine; step children, Cornelius and Ashanti Lawrence; step-grandchildren, Davarian Phillips and Gianni Lawrence; special niece, Johnetta Johnson; special nephews, Sanusi Cole and Brian Burns; his best friend, Lasine Lawrence; his “other brother”, Robert Macon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
