Remembering
CARL RAYMOND WELLMEIER
November 26, 1928 - January 4, 2021
Carl Raymond Wellmeier was born on November 26th, 1928 to parents Bernice (Ditzel) Wellmeier and Russell Wellmeier in Dayton Ohio.
Carl had keen scientific and mechanical interests and was adept at adapting that interest, voraciously taking in new knowledge and quickly applying that to learning many new and useful skills. He graduated as a machinist and quickly took to learning other trades. At one point, he established his own businesses and employed more than twenty.
More important than this great scientific and secular aptitude to Carl, though, was his spiritual need and a drive to help others. Bernie, Carl’s mother, encouraged Carl and his siblings to fulfil their spiritual need and she read the Bible to them daily from the time they were born. As a young adult Carl began searching for deeper spiritual meaning to life and the truth about God. As an avid reader of the Bible for himself now, Carl searched for deeper meaning including at the local Lutheran and United Brethren churches. Coming home frustrated from his searching one day he shared his frustrations with his mother. She suggested he talk to his uncle, Marvin, one of Jehovah’s witnesses. Marvin gave him a Bible of his own and a book explaining the Bible’s message and the hope God gives. Carl read both from cover to cover and began sharing the Bible’s message with others immediately. This became his life’s work.
He dedicated his life to God and symbolized this by being baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Right away, he began teaching what he was learning to all his siblings and other family who would listen.
Carl gave up many of his other pursuits and entered the full-time ministry. He enjoyed the preaching work greatly and until recently when dementia, Alzheimer’s & advancing age made it impossible to continue going out, he was a constant at every weekly meeting in his Congregation, and several others. When he wasn’t in a meeting, he could be found most every day, including weekends in the ministry, or helping someone fix anything from their car or their heat to a personal or family crisis – all free of charge. He truly loved his fellow man and would do anything he could to help.
Soon after his dedication he met the love of his life, an attractive young lady who shared the same spiritual interest and zeal that he had. Her name was Mary Frances Wight. They were married in June of 1954.
The couple embarked on a special full-time ministry together. Their assignments took them to Bellefontaine, Ohio; Celina, Ohio; London, Ohio; Middletown, Ohio, and a number of other places. It was during one of their assignments in Celina, Ohio that their only child Jeremy came along to pleasantly surprise them.
Sadly, Carl eventually lost his loving wife to our enemy death in July of 2011 after repeated bouts of cancer.
Carl served in various capacities as an Elder, Service Overseer & Group Overseer in the various Congregations he served for many years; as a caretaker at the London Assembly Hall; and he was a mentor to many young Christians.
Early in his life Carl also went to prison for several years for his firm stand of faith and love for his fellow man as a Conscientious Objector during the draft for the Korean war.
Carl spent his final days in the Arlington Court Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center in Columbus where an amazing group of Nurses and staff helped him with his daily needs. The family would like to take this opportunity to extend their profound gratitude to all at the Arlington Court Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center.
We have all lost a dear Friend and a faithful Servant of Jehovah.
He will be fondly missed by his friends in all the congregations where he has worked, fellowshipped and worshipped Jehovah God for many years.
