Burl Henry Spurlock, of Delaware, OH, died peacefully at Kobacker house surrounded by his family on September 28th, 2018. He was 71 years old. Burl is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gerri (Mills) Spurlock; his daughters, Tammy (Dan) Campbell, and Mary (Scott) Derick; and four grandchildren, Timothy and Alyssa Campbell, and Abigail and Emily Derick. He is also survived by his sister Joan Salisbury of Edison, his sister Virginia Allsbrook of CA, and his brother John Spurlock of Prospect, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families, whom he loved. Burl was born on April 10th, 1947 in Printer, KY to the late Henry and Alice Spurlock. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1965 and went on to join the Navy. Burl served aboard the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy from 1967 – 1971 as an ordinance supervisor, and was active in the Navy jazz band and men’s chorus. Upon leaving the Navy, Burl settled in Marion, OH and married the love of his life. A salesman for his entire career, Burl loved conversation and helping people get a good deal. His greatest joy in life, however, was his family. He loved to spend time at family gatherings sharing stories, taking pictures, and being the life of the party. Burl was a man of many talents, being a gifted musician, avid writer of poetry, and amateur photographer. He was also a car enthusiast and loved to hunt. Burl will always be remembered for his larger than life personality, ability to entertain, and captivating sense of humor. He had a deep and abiding faith, and was a member of Genoa Baptist Church in Westerville, OH. The family will receive friends at Genoa Church located at 7562 Lewis Center Rd, in Westerville, on Sunday September 30th, from 2-4pm with service following at 4pm.
