Betty McConnell

Betty Jean McConnell, formerly of Ashland, Ohio passed peacefully on January 10,2022 at the age of 93, with loving family by her side.

Betty Jean Wynn was born on December 18,1928 in Mansfield, Ohio, and married Stanley Dale McConnell in 1949. Tragically widowed in January 1955 at the age of 26, she became a single mother raising 3 young children. She possessed an unmatched work ethic and will to support her family, working as an Administrative Assistant at Christ United Methodist Church and Ashland College for nearly 30 years. She stayed extremely active in her family’s lives, guiding her children and grandchildren through various community activities and sports. She took special pride in acting as a team scorekeeper for both Little League Baseball and Girls Softball games.

Later in life, she began a twenty-year career as an Associate at the Ashland Walmart, making many cherished friends and lighting up the store with her infectious smile, good nature, and playful orneriness. ‘Betty Boop’, as she was affectionately referred to by her friends and coworkers, will forever be remembered for her kindness and generosity to others. She finally retired in 2011 at the age of 83.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; parents, Fannie and Lester; four brothers, Chuck, John, Robert and Richard; daughter Cheryl, and grandson Matthew. She leaves behind a large and adoring family including children, Doug (Sue) and Terri (Grace); grandchildren, Ryan (Stefanie), Bill (Yaa), Jeff, Scott (Oanh Na), Megan (Chad) and Molly (Brad); great-grandchildren, Chase (Alex), Taylor (Daniel), Halle, Devin, Ethan, Aster, Addie, Hannah, Nina, Natalie, Douglas, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved feline companion, Squeaker.

Betty’s life was filled with all the “good things”: ball games, dance recitals, guitar and piano lessons, parent-teacher conferences, and everything only a great mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother can understand. “G-G” as she was called by her great-grandkids, was simply the best!

A memorial service will be held at the Shaw-Davis Clintonville Chapel, 4341 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43214, on Tuesday, January 18,2022 at 10:00am followed by interment at the Ashland Cemetery.
