BYRD (Bettencourt) Bernice Julie Byrd, age 83, of Plain City, passed away peacefully in the care of the Kobacker House Hospice on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 in the company of her loved ones. Devoted wife of 52 years to husband Dale; loving mother of Kevin (Christine), Rene (Robert) Schiefer, Michelle (Timothy) Petruskevich and Monique (Chris); grandmother to Jessica (Chris) Frey, Jennifer (Eric) Krahel, Meredith (David) Partlow and Derek Petruskevich; great-grandchildren Jaxson Paas, Brantlee and Sawyer Partlow, Aubrey and Avery Frey, and Camden Krahel. Born in French Camp, CA in 1935 and raised in Manteca, CA, she was a graduate of the San Joaquin General School Of Nursing in northern California. While in nursing school she met and married Dale, who was stationed in California while enlisted in the Army Air Corp. After two years of service duty in Europe, they returned to Dale’s hometown of Dublin, OH. She dedicated her entire nursing career to the care of others, starting as a floor nurse, and then as a surgical nurse at Columbus Children’s Hospital. She completed her career at Mt. Carmel East Hospital as the Director of Surgical Services, from which she retired in 1999. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary, her brothers Chub and Frank, and her sister Mary Moore. Julie was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, as well as TBDBITL. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and the great outdoors via gardening, camping and boating. The family will welcome friends on Saturday, September 21 at the SHAW-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, 4341 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214. A brief memorial service will begin at 12 Noon, immediately followed by a reception and visitation with refreshments until 2PM. The entire family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Kobacker House for the loving care Julie received in her last days.
