Barbara Jane Irwin-Dougan (née Hackathorn) passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024, at Five Star Residences of Clearwater in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on December 18, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio.
She is survived by her three children, Steve (Dorothea), Indianapolis, Indiana; Mike (Gloria), Thornville, Ohio; and Pam, Newark, Ohio; four grandchildren, Christopher (Laura), Hilliard, Ohio, Daniel (Angela), Clovis, California, Nathan (Kelly), Bloomington, Indiana, Justin, Rome, Georgia; nine great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild: one sister, Betty Jean Sheridan; two nieces, Kathleen Sheridan, Bradenton, Florida, Patricia Sheridan, Bradenton, Florida, and one nephew, Philip Sheridan (Diane), Gardnerville, Nevada.
Barb graduated from Columbus North High School in 1946 where she was a drum majorette. Barb was an enthusiastic Ohio State Buckeye fan her entire adult life. She worked many years at Ohio Bell in Columbus, and later at General Telephone in Tampa, Florida. She was an 80-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Barb loved to dance, and as a teenager, would dance with WWII servicemen home on leave from the war at her parent's USO facility in Findlay, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, W James Irwin and Benjamin E Dougan, and a grandchild, Timothy Michael Irwin.
A memorial gathering will be on January 27th, at The Shaw Davis Funeral Home at 4341 N High St. 43214 between 2 pm and 4 pm to celebrate the life of this incredible woman.
