Austin Wilson Davis, 37, died January 6, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 3, 1986, Austin was a lifelong resident of the Westside of Columbus. He attended both Westland High School and Central Crossing High School, graduating from the latter as a member of the first graduating class in 2004. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies and Screenwriting. A consummate professional and efficient problem solver, Austin worked in scheduling at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, connecting children to the care they needed.
Austin loved many things in this world: ruining fresh snow (much to the chagrin of his brother Cody); watching and analyzing movies of all kinds, from pretentious Fellini films to Moana – he could appreciate the art in it all; owning the newest and best gadgets the internet could deliver to his door; running, boating, and skiing; playing videogames with his brother and friends (everything from Castlevania and Viper to Battlefield and Call of Duty); delighting in delicious delicacies like White Castle sliders or sipping on a stiff drink; and celebrating holidays to fullest. From epic Halloween costumes to joyful Boyzmas and Friendsmas parties, Austin tried to live life fully on the special days and the ordinary ones.
While those were Austin’s favorite hobbies, his family was his lifeblood. He was raised by, loved by, loved, and parented strong women. Austin married the love of his life, Rachel (née Murdock), under the fireworks on July 4, 2015. On Easter 2019, they welcomed their twins, Ruby and Jude. He really did love a holiday.
Austin’s children were his pride and joy. He was a hands-on dad from the first minute, rushing with them to the NICU, diligently documenting their feeds, and swaddling them like a pro. Austin relished being a #twindad, freely doling out big bear hugs, fashion advice, snuggles, and fun. Austin was steadfast and loving in his commitment to his family and friends, and they will always remember him in this way.
Austin is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Rachel Davis; children, Jude and Ruby Davis; parents and caretakers, Jackie and Bob Davis; brother, Cody (Nina) Davis; nephews, Nico and Caio Davis; brother-in-law, Zach Murdock; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends, and colleagues who meant the world to him. Austin also leaves behind his beloved cats, Kiki and Starman. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the wonderful caretakers and medical professionals at The James Cancer Hospital who cared for Austin.
The family will hold an open house memorial Monday, January 15, from 12 PM to 4 PM at the Cedar Ridge Lodge in Darby Creek Park (1775 Darby Creek Drive). Family and friends are invited to share memories of Austin at 3 PM.
To honor Austin’s life, consider making a donation to Ruby and Jude’s education fund (details below), being screened for colon cancer, or educating your loved ones about the symptoms of colon cancer.
