Antonio, “Tony” Alejandro Santurio, passed peacefully with his children by side, at Doctor’s Hospital on July 28th, 2024. He was an artist, musician, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Cassandra Santurio, son, David Santurio, grandchildren, Gabriella Santurio, Finnegan Burnside, Leonardo Tapia and Elian Lucas Tapia. He was born in Havana, Cuba, the son of the late Antonio Santurio and Carmen Pizzi Santurio. He grew up with two brothers and two sisters: Marianela Santurio, Carlos Santurio (OH), Mickey Santurio (NY) and Angie Nanfro (Miami, FL). He came to the US during the Cuban revolution of 1959, settling in Queens, New York, where he grew up and became the man he was. He moved to Columbus, Ohio after his children were born and settled in Columbus after living in Miami Florida with his parents for several years.
He was an artist from birth, joining his siblings in the passion of music, he played guitar and wrote his own songs as well as perform and sing at many parties, venues, since his youth. His late sister, Marianella, “Mari”, played piano, his brother, Mickey plays the drums and his brother Carlos plays guitar, as well as his late father. He was the life of the party and had a magnetic personality, knowing how to draw attention. He was a natural performer, positive presence and personality. His laugh alone would lift spirits. He was something of a music nerd. He could hear the first few lyrics of a song from his era and knew the artist, song and album title, sometimes the year.
He lived for his children and grandchildren. He was always wanting to spend time with them and was a very loving abuelo. His oldest and only granddaughter, Gabriella, was the apple of his eye. He made an effort to spend as much time with his children and grandchildren as he could.
It’s no doubt he was well loved his whole life, well up to the end.
He battled the last several years with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver or (NASH), and tried his hardest to fight until the end, to be there for his children and grandchildren.
A memorial will be held in his home for anyone who knew him, on Saturday August 10th, from noon to four PM at 38 S West St. West Jefferson, Ohio 43162. He kept saying he wanted to go home, the whole time he was in the hospital, so we will remember him there.
