Elaine Clevenger

Reverend Elaine Mary Clevenger (Raybould) was Promoted to Glory on Friday, November 12.  Her final moments were spent surrounded by family and listening to her favorite Salvation Army songs.

Elaine was born in England to Violet and Robert Raybould.  She often shared stories of her journey to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth steam liner, as well as her adolescence in Philadelphia.  After a brief time pursuing a degree in Library Science, Elaine was called to ministry and entered the Salvation Army School for Officer Training.  It was there that she met the love of her life and spouse, Reverend Robert (Bob) Clevenger.

For many years Elaine and Bob ministered together to a number of congregations both in the Salvation Army and Wesleyan Church.  Elaine’s deepest passion in ministry was Children’s and Music ministry.

Although she was diabetic, Elaine also had an unlikely ministry…sugar.  Every congregation that she was a part of was familiar with the smell of her cookies, cakes, and pies.  Whether it be a children’s program, recovery ministry, or pastors retreat…she made sure it was sweet.

She is survived by her loving husband Robert Clevenger, children Jason Clevenger (wife Jennifer) , Amy Nicole Beaudoin (husband Sean), grandchildren Tyler, Ryan, Kaleb, Sean Michael, Devin, and Riley.  Elaine was proceeded in death by her mother Violet Raybould, father Robert Raybould, and mother-in-law Isabelle Clevenger, each of these, a life lost to Alzheimer’s Disease. She was also proceeded in death by her brother Spc. Christopher Raybould and father-in-law Maxwell Clevenger.

In lieu of flowers, Elaine’s children would invite you to help in the fight against this disease and the ongoing support of caregivers by donating to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The family also invites donations to The Salvation Army - Chapel at Worthington Woods.  Bob and Elaine attended the Chapel at Worthington Woods since 2015 and served together in The Salvation Army for 10 years, followed by 10 years of service in the Wesleyan Church before retiring.

The family will welcome visitors at 11:00am , Saturday December 4, 2021 at The Salvation Army - Chapel at Worthington Woods, 760 Worthington Woods Blvd, Columbus, OH 43085.    The remembrance service will follow at 12:00pm.
